My name is David Gabriel. I am an Industrial Designer and Space Architect. I have the privilege of working alongside current and former members of the Astronaut Corp and some of the most talented engineers on the planet. My passion is finding empathy based solutions that empower the user through human centered design.
I served as the Senior Industrial Designer in the Advanced Concepts division at Sierra Space. I worked on a wide variety of products from habitat design, mars transit vehicles, rovers, solar panel deployment methods and much more.
While at Dynetics I was able to assist with the design of the Human Landing System (HLS). Here I have been able to bring together my fabrication background, leadership training and higher education to help design a human rated lunar lander. I was responsible for the Dynetics Mock Up Facility which houses the HLS low fidelity mock up, a flight simulator and other advance concepts in work. I also built the Dynetics Virtual Reality Lab.
I graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with a degree in Industrial Design in 2020. While attending I did multiple corporate partnerships with Delta Faucets, Fiskars, and General Motors. While partnering with General Motors, I studied automotive clay sculpting and placed 3rd in a transportation design competition.
In 2019, I interned at Marshall Space Flight Center an Industrial Designer. Marshall later sponsored my senior capstone project.
After completing my military service, I worked for Forsyth Metal Works as a fabricator and designer. I learned the importance of balancing form and function. It was here that I gained a practical understanding of fabrication and construction.
In 2008 I joined the Army Infantry and deployed twice to Afghanistan. I was attached to Special Forces and Navy Seals. My passion for design began while deployed to Afghanistan. My team was a part of an effort called Village Stability Operations.
In this effort we assessed the needs of the local villages and empowered them to support and defend themselves. During this time, I designed and constructed a bridge using what was on hand, pallet wood and parachute cord. The impact was lifechanging, two tribes who had been separated by a rapid river could now meet and work together. This showed me how one improvement could effect someone's life.
